MESH--MESH

In our culture, everything has a share of its name, and so does MESH- -MESH. The name is derived from the 'Mesh' objects sculpted and edited in computer-aided design applications and materialized into physical objects using 3D printers. MESH- -MESH also draws inspiration from the Egyptian proverb 'في المشمش -- Fe al-meshmesh", the Arabic equivalent of 'chasing rainbows' and 'building castles in the air.' This phrase describes the yearning for a beautiful daydream, something surreal, elusive, and ephemeral. As a name, MESH- -MESH emphasizes both its digital crafting dimension and the brand’s pursuit of creating playful, imaginative forms that are impossible to achieve using traditional manufacturing methods.

 

Our Process

Starting with curiosity and openness, the journey always begins with a sentiment, a strong urge to pursue and to know more. It could be anything: architecture, nature, a craft, a myth, a toy. Then, an obsessive pursuit of form-finding begins. Through a process of digital crafting, we strive to capture an essence or recontextualize it, always aspiring for newness and whimsicality. A sense of slowness and taking time to ponder lends leisure to our bags, while a sense of playfulness and lightness balances the process. Using design elements of transparency, morphing, and contrast, the final creations are usually designs that can only be realized using next-generation futuristic technologies, specifically 3D printing.

During 3D printing, light cures the resin layer by layer, creating our designs one-tenth of a millimeter at a time. Slowly and with extreme precision, our bags emerge. Each bag is then hand-polished to full transparency, artistically painted, and its intricate details carefully inspected.
